You will undoubtedly have already noticed it if, like us, you open your application very regularly Alexa looking for novelties: it is now possible to create custom Fire TV routines. Although most voice commands Alexa already allowed you to do these actions, it did not always work with some applications and it was impossible to create custom scenarios. Thanks to a recent update, it's now easy and we'll explain how, as well as give you some possible examples. Follow the guide !
Fire TV: link your device to Alexa
The first thing to do is, of course, to bind your new Fire TV Stick ou Fire TV Cube in the app Alexa.
To do this, nothing simpler :
- Open theapplication Alexa,
- Go to " More ",
- Select " Settings ",
- Go to "TV and video",
- Choose "Fire TV".
- Select "Pair your device Alexa » and follow the instructions.

Fire TV routines in the app Alexa
Once your device Amazon Fire TV correctly associated with Alexa, you just have to go to the routines of the application.
- Open theapplication Alexa,
- Go to " More ",
- Choose "Routines",
- Go to "+" top right,
- Compose your Fire TV routines !
We find in the Fire TV routines:
- Switch on switch off : Fire TV by personalizing the command or inserting it wherever you want in the routine,
- Content reading: you can choose content or open a specific application. For example, "Open Netflix", "Lance Jack Ryan",
- Pause video: this is one of the most practical features. Already available on some services, you can customize the order here Alexa and use it for any service provider. Practice !
- Resume the video: like the previous one, back on your sofa you can ask Alexa to resume the current video!
Finally, if you have the Fire TV Cube, you can also adjust volume with small onions. A feature not available on Fire TV Sticks.
Example Fire TV routine
You lack inspiration, this is a simple idea that you can easily reproduce at home with your Fire TV Stick and a few connected bulbs for example.
In our example, Alexa go :
- Say " Let's go",
- Turn on the TV through Fire TV Cube,
- Turn off the kitchen open to the living room to immerse ourselves in a cinema atmosphere,
- Start the Cinema scene created in the Philips Hue app,
- Say " Everything is ready ! Good session ! "
- Launch Netflix on Amazon FireTV.
During this time, we will have taken care to take the popcorn and make ourselves comfortable in front of our television. It remains to choose the film or the series! Nice, no?
Reading is not available for old fire tv sticks (even if we have the new remote control) It's sad !!!
For a few weeks now, when I say via my EchoDot 3: "Turn off the lights", it sometimes turns off the television set (where I connected a FireTVStick) ... on the other hand, turning off the 1st light or the 2nd, that's fine. … But the 2 together has an effect on the TV. I had tried when purchasing the EchoDot to create the "Turn off the TV" routine via the EchoDot but nothing, no effect, not compatible or something like that, he told me.
Thanks for this tutorial.
But for me, the option 'reading a content' does not appear. Any idea why? I'm up to date on the Fire Stick and the app.
Do we have to have the cube?
Goods.
Hello,
A priori no, we tested it on Cube and 4K, the only difference was the volume control which is logically only present on Fire TV Cube.
See if an app update is available. 🙂
Now it works! Indeed, we have already encountered the problem with an Echo Show 5 link to Fire TV Stick as well, but everything was back to normal after updating.
You are not the first to raise this point, let's hope for a future development… 🙂
Hello,
Thanks for the tutorial. I have the same problem, the option "Reading a content" is unavailable yet I am on the Cube (it was updated on the first connection) and the application on my phone is up to date .
This ultimately leaves us very limited in terms of the possibilities of routines.
If you have some answers, I am interested.
Thank you for this article.
Hello,
Unfortunately, you are obviously not alone in this case, it is probably necessary to wait for an update, but no doubt that it will come for all ... 😉
Good end of the day 🙂
Hello,
Same for me with the FireTV Stick4k, I only have this:
"Pause the video"
"Resume the video"
"Return to Home"
Hello,
Indeed, the functionality has vanished, but there is no doubt that it will eventually reappear. 😉
Hello,
Thanks for all your advice, it's great! (and happy new year 😉)
I linked my Fire Stick to Alexa and it works perfectly.
However, I can't find my Fire Stick when I want to add it to a routine.
An idea ?
Thank you!
Hello,
Fire TV devices aren't available as a trigger (“When this happens”) but as an action (“Add an action”). It is logically available in "Fire TV".
Happy New Year too! 🙂
Hello !
Thank you for this feedback. By doing the necessary xxxx updates, I finally saw my Fire TV appear for my routines! On the other hand, it does not work correctly and I often have to turn on the fire stick manually (while the other actions of the routine work without problem): any idea?
Also, do you know of any free VPN on Fire Stick? I am abroad and it would unlock a lot of channels 😉
Thank you !!!
Hello Michael,
Ah, it's weird but others report the same problem to our community. Is the FIre TV Stick powered by the TV or directly? Is HDMI-CEC enabled?
Unfortunately, for free, VPNs are rarely very fast and therefore not very usable for streaming. I haven't tested any actually, I use NordVP as mentioned here, and I know Express VPN gets a lot of press too. 😉
Have a good day
Thanks for your feedback.
Yes the Fire Stick is powered directly. What is strange is that it works from time to time ... but not all the time ...
Is this a 2020 model? Because, although we don't have proof, it is possible that it comes from the new energy saving feature ...
No, it's a 2018 model ...
Ah, so, maybe we have to wait for the next updates… 😉
Hello. Thank you for your very useful articles.
Why must the fire stick command "open Netflix on Molotov" be the last on the list of the routine?
I wish the lights in the house went out AFTER
Thanks for your ideas.
Hello,
Unfortunately we have no explanation and unfortunately it is not possible to get around this, unless perhaps calling a scenario where you will set a wait time on the app supporting your lights. In other words, Alexa will launch the scenes, which will be configured as you wish elsewhere.
Have a good day
