Nest Secure: Google abandons its alarm system

It is a subject that we often discuss on our Facebook group : the home security. Motion detectors, opening sensors and others connected alarms have indeed the wind in their sails, except at Google which obviously does not intend to give a second chance to its alarm system Nest Secure. As noted by our American colleagues from the site Android Police, the company secretly removed its product page from its online store before confirming shortly after its abandonment ...

Nest Secure: dropping the Google Assistant alarm

Launched in 2017 at $ 499 in the US, Nest Secure obviously did not meet the expected success. Composed of a base acting as a keyboard, sensors and NFC remote controls used to arm or disarm the device, the connected alarm of the Mountain View giant had everything to please users of Google Home who could control it via the Nest app, but also thanks to Google Assistant voice commands.

A year after its release, the device dropped sharply by $ 100 before the scandal of the discovery of a built-in microphone which Google had never made known to its users, which prompted the company to publish confidentiality commitments a few months later. An event that will surely have got the better of the product whose marketing has been stopped as confirmed by The Verge a spokesperson : "Google Nest will no longer produce Nest Secure, but we will continue to support our users [system] security in the same way.". Good news for the - rare? - users of the system who should be able to continue to enjoy their alarm for a few years, while waiting for probable novelties in the coming years…

What's new to come?

A few months ago, in fact, Google announced a significant investment of $ 450 million in ADT, one of the largest security companies in the United States, in order to develop with it a connected home offer around Nest devices that are supposed to become “cornerstones” of a home security system.

Hard to believe that all this would already be abandoned and it is therefore a safe bet that new devices will be unveiled soon, especially as its competitor Amazon continues to advance on the subject with his excellent Ring Alarm system compatible Alexa now available in France.

Meanwhile, users of the new Nest Audio speaker can always turn to Nest Cam cameras or the Nest Hello connected doorbell ...

Fascinated by Alexa since the day I received it in beta test, I gradually became passionate about the subject, before deciding to go further by creating a site with Jean-Christophe. An activity that allows me to quench my thirst for new technologies and share my discoveries about the nicest of communities: Les Alexiens.
