We mentioned it during our Roborock S6 MaxV review, the video camera of the Chinese company's latest robot vacuum cleaner was used only for navigation purposes. Unlike its competitor Ecovacs on its last Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI, the manufacturer put forward at its release arguments relating to confidentiality that are completely understandable at a time when users are increasingly concerned about it. Surprise, Roborock today does an about-face and announces the availability of the remote video on his S6 MaxV.

Roborock S6 MaxV: remote video enabled

Anxious to always offer innovative products and services, Roborock has therefore developed the optical system of its robot vacuum cleaner. Roborock S6 Max V and is now offering “Remote Video”.

Available from the Roborock app under Android as iOS, the feature offers the lucky owners of this high-end robot vacuum cleaner the possibility of viewing in real time the images captured by its two front cameras.

Allowing you to monitor your pets and more generally your home, the "Remote video" function can be used both during cleaning of the robot and when moving the robot via the device control function.

Highly secure functionality

May the anxious be reassured: the company has partnered with TÜV Rheinland in order to guarantee users maximum security.

Tests were thus conducted by TUV to ensure that the Roborock S6 MaxV meets the ETSI TS 103645 certification, a cybersecurity standard for IoT products ensuring proper respect for confidentiality and protection of personal data.

Moreover, we noted during our morning tests that the robot keeps warning that the mode is activated. Impossible, therefore, to be spied on unbeknownst to him by someone who managed to access your account AND find the security scheme… It's unlikely, but hey.

How to enable live video on S6 MaxV?

It's very simple, but there are a few steps you can take to secure it all:

  1. Open your Roborock app ;
  2. Go to your S6 MaxV ;
  3. Check that you have the latest robot update in the settings;
  1. This done, press all three buttons simultaneously located on the top of the robot for at least three seconds. The robot should notify you when the feature is activated.
  2. Go to the map S6 MaxV;
  3. Click on the camera pictogram at the top right of the map;
  4. Activate "real-time video" ;
  5. Accept the conditions general use;
  6. Set a password graph by connecting at least four points (as on the smartphones);

So, concretely, what does that give?

It's pretty cool. Beyond the obvious security aspect, the functionality can also be practical for the lazier among us since it allows you to control the robot from your sofa without having to follow it. It is as if you have a drone with wheels - which does not fly, ed - Between hands !

The camera can also be used to see why the robot has not returned to its charging station, if it has become entangled in wires, although this happens very rarely thanks to its artificial intelligence ReactiveAI.

The image is of fairly good quality, without matching the best cameras of the market, and allows to visualize very well the environment in which the robot operates. Even in the dark. At its height, of course, which is quite funny because we are obviously not used to it. We also understand better why his movements are so precise and what makes the Roborock S6 MaxV is one of the best robot vacuum cleaners on the market !

Note, moreover, that a microphone functionality allows you to use the robot's speakers to talk through your smartphone. On the other hand, you will not hear anything because it is not equipped with microphones, which is in the end just as good. Finally, it is important to specify that once in its dock, the S6 MaxV is completely blind, its camera coming to rest against the charging dock.

In short, the Roborock S6 MaxV live video is an interesting and welcome feature because, it must be admitted, it would have been a shame not to be able to enjoy both eyes. Easily activated or deactivated, highly secure, it should delight the users of this decidedly very high-end robot!

Fascinated by Alexa since the day I received it in beta test, I gradually became passionate about the subject, before deciding to go further by creating a site with Jean-Christophe. An activity that allows me to quench my thirst for new technologies and share my discoveries about the nicest of communities: Les Alexiens.
