Tutorial to install a connected device using the application and the Meross skill

You could see in our different MEROSS brand product testing that they are relatively qualitative products and often with a little something extra compared to other brands. But it all works with the app and the brand's dedicated skill.

So we decided to give you a little tutorial on using the MEROSS application which, you will see, is really not bad. Let yourself be guided through the installation of a plug, but the principle will be the same for the other products of the brand.

Meross is a brand created in 2016 that specializes in the manufacture of connected products whose sockets (indoor and outdoor), extensions, smart bulbs, Wi-Fi switches, switches, routers ... It is a Chinese brand founded by alumni of Microsoft, MTK, Cisco and TP-Link. And clearly, the quality shows, almost always…

Configuring Meross

The first step will be to download the app and register by entering your Email and mot de passe.

Validate and activate the GPS of your Smartphone. This has its interest during the installation, but then, no obligation to leave it.

From there, if this is your first time installing a product, a pop-up will ask you if you want to add product. If it's not the first time, use the small "+". But at the same time, if you have already done it, what are you doing in this tutorial? As you see it, the application is in French, it's truly pleasent. Then select your device (for France, it is the second take, the one with the earth for example). The way to do it next is not really different from other apps. So, for a socket or an extension, turn it on and flash it and then let yourself be guided. For the lights, ditto.

The installation is done in 2 steps. After setting pairing mode, the application connects to the device to be installed and then connects it to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, from which you will enter the code.

If there is still a problem, there is another slightly more complicated solution, the AP mode, which will consist of going to connect to the device via the Wi-Fi settings (after having reset it), then return to the application (without changing network) and so force recognition of the socket by the phone and then reconfigure the correct Wi-Fi network. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to join us on our Facebook group. That said, the app walks you through it step by step, so it shouldn't be a problem.

The final step Wi-Fi connection is long enough so don't worry. Once done, you can rename your device and even choose a cute icon! There is also a good chance that you are entitled to a firmware update of your device.

Using Meross

Meross is a fairly intuitive application and if you are used to Smart Life, Tuya ou Yeelight, no big change. You will find the creating routines, scenes or your settings.

What are routines? It will consist of very easily create pre-established actions allowing you toturn on / off your device at such time (day, week ... repeatable) or at a very specific moment (sunrise, sunset, etc.) and / orswitch off after a certain period of use. You can see on the screenshots the different possibilities of repeating the routine. Your routines will also be named by you to easily launch them.

For example, you can create a “coffee” routine to turn on an outlet at 7 am and turn on your coffee maker and another to turn it off 15 minutes later.

The scenes will allow you toapply an action that you have determined when you press its icon (also customizable).

The parameters part will take you to Q&A to be able to use your device with Alexa, GH or even aids. But this is in English. You can also check for firmware and application updates here as well as provide feedback to Meross in case of problems or questions.

Returning to the home page and selecting your device (by clicking on the little pencil at the top right of the icon), you enter the device settings. From there, you can change the name of the device, change its icon, turn the LED on or off (very interesting option).

You also have the possibility, if your device is equipped, to monitor the consumption of connected devices. We thus have the instantaneous energy consumption monitoring et on the day but also, by developing the menu, the consumption graphs for the week, month and total. To do this, just expand the view with the symbol ">" next to drinks.

Installing the Meross Skill

To use your plug with Alexa, it is necessary toactivate the Skill Meross on your application Alexa.
No problem doing this, it's the same as all the other skills. Then enter your username and password to connect to the Skill and give the authorizations necessary to Alexa.

There you go !

Then close the window so thatAlexa starts to search for your device. Be sure to turn it on.

OnceAlexa detected your device, it will appear in your connected devices.

So there you have it, you have successfully paired a device with Meross with Alexa. It's like the other applications in the end, even if this one has a little something that the others do not have, a little humor, a freshness ... On the other hand, for voice applications with Alexa, nothing more: turn on, turn off, routine… but no possibility of requesting instantaneous consumption by voice…

Did i choose Alexa or did she choose me? Let's say that as a beta tester, it's a bit of both! And I do not regret having met our favorite assistant nor this adventure undertaken with Alexien Modo. Technophile, self-taught and loving popularization, I try to make our common passion easy to access!
