Today is a big day: you have just received your Amazon Echo (echo 2nd generation, Echo Dot 2 or 3, Echo Spot ou Echo Show 2) !! Unpacking, installation and the first questions and answers.
It's fabulous but you quickly see another potential, besides everyone is talking about the connected home! Turn lights on and off by voice, change their color, close and open the shutters without lifting a finger… The dream. But now, it is all very well, but how should it be done?
We are going to take a look at autonomous Wi-Fi connected bulbs. Indeed, there are two types of connected bulbs that can be used with Alexa :
- The bulbs operating via a hub or footbridge, or bridge in French. This is the case of the Philipps Hue for example. It is this hub which will manage the bulbs and which will be connected to Alexa. The bulbs used must be of the brand or compatible.
- The autonomous bulbs, which work alone. Several brands can be used in the same room. They work via Wi-Fi and a mobile application. This application must be downloaded from the smartphone and be recognized by the skills Alexa. This is the case of Smartlife, Yeelight ...
The first step will be to download the app used to operate the bulb. The application is presented either on the box or in the operating mode. In our case, it will be Smart Life. After installation, it is necessary to create an account by following the various steps (email, password, etc.).
At the same time, it is necessary to activate the Skill Smart Life for Alexa. The procedure is the same for Yeelight or others.
Then comes the placement of the bulb. Nothing could be simpler: unscrew the old one and put your new acquisition in its place.
Then it's not much more complicated. In the case of Smart Life, open the application on the phone and select the “+” to activate a new lamp. Then use your switch to turn the lamp off and on 2 or 3 times (but that it ultimately remains in the on position). The lamp will start to flash.
When this is the case, select "confirmed in the flashlight" ... Ok, it's not really French, but basically it means " confirm the bulb is flashing ". Then, enter your Wi-Fi code. The configuration is done alone. When everything is finished, you arrive at a page giving you the possibility (which must be entered!) To change the name of the lamp. This is the name that will follow your bulb for voice requests Alexa. So keep it simple and precise.
Then go to the application Alexa and in the connected home part. Select "add a device" (leave the bulb on). The application will detect it and then make it appear (Room in my case).
And There you go ! you have a room where your light will obey you! The activation words are quite simple:
- Alexa, turn on the room
- Alexa, turn off the room
- Alexa, turn on the room at 50%
- Alexa, turn on the room blue
- see all orders Alexa here...
You can also create routines to turn off all the lights in the house at the same time or to have a specific color for reading or watch television… But that's another story !
Great tutorial! Thank you! 😉
Hello,
Well done for your tutorial and thank you.
Unfortunately, I can “play with the switch” as you write it, but nothing blinks. So I'm afraid to see the police disembark for illegal transmission of coded light messages! 🙂
In short, I have a Philips HUE E27 bulb that works perfectly with Alexa but impossible to make it flash to make it recognized by Smart Life ...
Note that a connected outlet, when it comes to it, works with both.
A tip, a clarification?
Thank you in advance, I bookmark your site!

I just installed my bulb the system Smart life took it into account but when I want to turn it on by voice command Alexa tells me that there is no equipment while it is well configured
If it works with the app Smart Life, you have to go to "Connected home" then at the top right, start a search for new equipment. But maybe Alexa has she detected it since?

Thank you! Philips Hue bulbs are unfortunately not compatible with Smart Life. You can possibly try to have the Zigbee bridge detected by Smart Life, but I doubt the result. By the way, it seems to me that this option is available at Philips Hue.

I have just installed the app but I do not receive the activation code what to do?
Check your spam emails to see if you have used an email to register. Be careful, however, Smart Life has encountered some problems in recent days… 🙁
Hello everybody
My problem is that Alexa does not turn it on by voice command.
I renamed light, bulb, luminaire and each time she answers me {sorry I couldn't find any device called "light".
On the other hand through the application Alexa I can do everything manually.
Help thank you in advance for your answers
The name is the same in the application Smart Life and in the app Alexa? Do not hesitate to come to the forum if necessary. 😉
Thank you for your answer, it's progressing he recognized it to me but the application Amazon asks me to speak to him in English ...
Ah? Problem solved on the group or am I wrong?
good evening the same, however, I have the same bulbs that I have for a while, it works and not with the news
Smart Life has recently been having trouble adding hardware. We asked them the question but did not really have a precise answer… It seems that they are having difficulty absorbing the post-Christmas increase in load and the more than significant increase in the number of users of voice assistants. (Alexa like Google Home).
Hello,
Does this lamp work well with Google home?
Thank you for the answer.
A priori, yes, but we are not really Google Home specialists… 😉
Hi
I installed my Yeelight bulb on my phone via the app it works well but the problem after installing the Yeelight skills I cannot have the bulb detected by Alexa.I specify that the app server is German.
Cdlt
Hello,
I invite you to wait a bit, detection can sometimes take a little while, although I have never encountered this with Yeelight. The European servers are fine in Germany, no worries from this point of view. Maybe try running a manual device detection in your app. Alexa.
Best regards.
hello my bulbs were working well but I moved and I can no longer get them to be recognized by smart Life
What can be the problem
thank you in advance
Hello,
The easiest way, when moving with a change of box, is to use the same SSID and Wi-Fi key. Thus, connected objects will not even notice the change. Otherwise, for Smart Life, you can remove a device and then redo the installation procedure by entering the new codes. Usually, they will then be offered to you for others. In the worst case, you will have to resume the installation of all your connected objects.
Good luck! 😉
I agree I have started all over again but but smart life can't recognize my bulbs
how can we get help
thank you in advance
Smart Life is obviously experiencing some setbacks lately, ...
Hello,
When I install my bulb Smart Bulb, she is recognized by Smart Life. However, when connecting to my box (SFR NB6), when I enter my password, the connection is not made (device found, device registration, device initialization) "addition failed" , Why?
You are probably trying to connect it to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi of your box, but most connected objects only connect to 2.4 GHz and you must connect the device that you use for pairing on this band to it.
Hi
I am trying to install my bulb, but the app cannot find it? how can I do? thanks in advance
Your smartphone is on the 2.4 GHz network. If this is the case, try to restart it or / and your box.
and how do we do it? if I understood correctly my sfr nb6 box broadcasts wifi 2.4 and 5ghz at the same time, so when connecting to the wifi network on SmartLife, how I chose the 2.4 ghz ??
In your web browser, open the address https://192.168.0.1
- Enter your identifiers: if they have never been changed, it will be the couple id: admin and password: admin
- Go to the "Wi-Fi" tab
- Change the SSID of the 2.4 GHz network
- Click on "apply" at the bottom of the page
HELLO HAVE AN identical CONCERN almost MY BOX AND WELL IS 2,4 G. the light flashes well I connect the application it took me a long time to reach 100% but reach the end. they write "chess of the add"
If you smartphone is also on 2.4 GHz, the problem may come from the application. Sometimes there are concerns. In this case, try with Tuya Smart for example, it is an identical application from the same publisher. But first of all, I invite you to restart box and smartphone, and try again.
Hi
I followed your tutorial like everything I have seen on the Internet and despite everything I cannot connect my bulbs smart life never detects my bulbs while it is flashing and everything else do you have an explanation? Thank you
Good morning ! If they are blinking fine and nothing is happening, it is either a WiFi password pb or, more likely, a WiFi frequency issue. Some dual band boxes find it difficult to juggle between 2,4 and 5 GHz. What is the box used?
My box to use is the livebox4 I of course have 2 different wifi networks so 1 with 2,4 band and the other 5ghz so I chose the 2,4ghz the mdp is good and there is no problem I have also try to 'connect by access point through the application and it still does not work
I suggest you come and join us on the Alexiens Facebook group. There have been cases like this with this box. It will be simpler.
Very well thank you
Hello everyone I have a problem for some day with my lamps to connect smart bulbs. indeed I can put them in any color EXCEPT WHITE! .. when I say - ok google turn me on the dining room in white - he answers me - this mode is not available !! .. whereas before it works very well do you have any idea? I have the app on my iphone - nedis smart life and bulbs –nedis smart bulbs
The problem obviously comes from Google Home. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with the matter, we are only interested in Alexa with whom it works very well. 🙂
Hello
I followed your tutorial and I was not able to connect but I still managed on my own. it is imperative to go through a first step (wifi) before following yours. for all people who can not start the same bulb as mine, that is to say compatible smart lift bought on Amazon and although he contacts me on [email protected] because I have a video where I explain how to get there. when the rest bravo for your site it is great for alexiens like me.
Hello,
I am writing this little message because at home I have a problem that appeared with my bulb. My installation was several months old when one day when I got up I noticed that all my devices: the speaker, the bulb, my alarm and even my iPad (yet it detects the network but acts as if it did not have the correct code ), are no longer connected to my wifi (livebox). Strangely, my phone still is. suddenly after a hard reset of the box everything came back for a day before doing the same again and returning to normal. A month passes and it starts again and it starts to get swelling. Have you ever encountered this problem?
Thank you in advance.
It is a recurring problem indeed. This is quite simply due to the fact that the Livebox, like all FAI boxes, are not designed to support so many connected objects. Fortunately, there are solutions that we have detailed here: Mesh Wi-Fi. Many members of our community have opted for a fairly economical and devilishly effective solution: the Tenda Nova MW6 mesh router.
hello, I have the last box from orange which is in 5GHz, how can we switch to 2 GHz to be able to connect the lamp, thank you olivier
You have to force your mobile device to connect to 5GHz. Many opt to separate networks for simplicity, but you should normally be able to hang in 2.4GHz or 5GHz as you wish. Bulbs, sockets and other connected devices that only accept 2.4GHz will therefore only see him.
Bonjour,
month smart bulbs do not light up at all.
How to do ?
Hello,
I bought two connected bulbs compatible with Smrtlife etc.
I followed the instructions to the letter, my wifi is in 2.4GHz, the bulbs blink but at the end "failed to add"
I restarted my livebox as well as my smartphone do nothing
Need help please 🙁
cordialement,
Hello Tama,
They don't blink at all? Even turning off and on again several times?
Hello Rémi,
Is the phone's wi-fi enabled? This is sometimes necessary. Another question: what is the box? It is also possible that Smartlife has problems. It's rare, but it happens.
Good luck
Hello Jean-Chrisophe
Yes my wifi smartphone is activated for the fitting of my bulb,
Le smartphone is also on 2GHz
I have a Livebox 4
Hoping that it is a problem of smartlife but I also tried tuya: /
Hi
Have you found a solution to your problem
I am in the same situation
My email is daniel84 (at) orange.fr
If you want to help me out, thank you
Can you be more explicit please because I have the same problem and I can't do it
You must either access the administration interface of your Livebox ( http://192.168.1.1 ) or use the My Livebox mobile application ( https://malivebox.orange.fr/ ) then in the advanced Wi-Fi settings, you can either create two networks (one in 2.4 GHz and the other 5 GHz) or temporarily deactivate 5 GHz while you install your equipment.
Hello when I have to enter the wifi code, there is an insert which tells me that the bulb only works on a 2,4ghz network and not at 5ghz (I am well in 2,4ghz). But after entering my wifi code, it is impossible to press confirm, nothing happens, so impossible to connect the bulb.
Normally, this is only displayed in the presence of 5 GHz ... Close the app and relaunch it, that may be enough. Attention, also, it often happens that a smartphone is recovering alone on 5 GHz. In these cases, the best is to deactivate it temporarily, just long enough to do the manipulation.
Good luck!
Hello Remi, has your problem been solved, I have exactly the same.
Hope to read you
Ludovic
Hello, I tried several times to connect my bulb smart bulb on my google home but could not make it flash, even by turning it on / off several times.
What to do?
Will pass Alexa? Sorry, we don't have any expertise on Google Home… 😉
Hello to you. I bought an LSC bulb from action, and I asked myself a question after the purchase:
If I disconnect my phone from wifi, does the bulb continue to communicate wifi in the environment?
Basically, I just want to use the phone to adjust the bulb once in a while, but no more than that.
Thank you in advance for the time devoted to my little question 😉
Hello,
Yes, of course the bulb connects directly to Wi-Fi. So you don't need your smartphone at all times, especially if you are using a voice assistant.
Good weekend
Hello I am in the same situation as there nobody above it has been over an hour since I have been unable to recognize the bulb by the application
Merci de votre réponse
Reset the bulb, restart your smartphone and your router, and start over, making sure that your smartphone is on the 2.4 GHz band.
Good luck
Hi
Although I do everything as you explain, it does not find my lamps, yet I do well like you.
I do not know how to deal with this anymore.
thank you for helping me
cordially
Hello and best wishes,
I obviously have a problem. LOL.
I have a DOT echo which I configured using your advice and everything worked perfectly. I just bought an Echo. I replaced the DOT with the Echo in the living room. The DOT is passed in the room. So far so good. The problem is that I connected a Teckin socket on 2 bedside tables via a power strip. Everything is recognized at the same time in smart life is the app Alexa. Yet when I ask Alexa (DOT of the room) to turn on the night lights (this is the name of the bedside tables), sometimes Alexa turn them on but don't want to turn it off or it's the other way around.
Where do you think the problem comes from?
I would like to point out that there is an Echo, an Echo DOT, 2 Teckin bulbs and 2 Teckin plugs throughout the apartment.
Thanking you for your enlightenment.
Hello,
Best wishes too. 🙂
Alexa encountered some problems yesterday, it probably came from there… Try again today, everything is back to normal.
Have a good day
Hello,
Restart your routers and smartphone, make sure you are on the 2.4 GHz band, then reset your hardware before starting over.
Good luck
Hello,
Impossible to make my bulb work, in fact my wifi is in 5 GHZ, and the bulb in 2,4 GHZ if someone has a solution it is welcome.
99% of connected objects do not accept 5 GHz… Why? Because the chips cost a little more and the range is much less compared to 2.4 GHz. All you have to do is activate 2.4 GHz, rare are the routers that do not offer it. 🙂
Purchase led light bulb application does not detect the bulb it flashes quickly as requested. Test with several apps, always the same problem
Good evening to all of you!
Impossible to pass the last step "initialization" and systematic failure in my PR with a Freebox well at 2,4ghz !!! Can my laptop (mi Lite 9) be at 5ghz in this case? If so, how can I see it and change it?
While in my RS no problem with an SFRbox and the 8 bulbs and 4 sockets connected ...
Help!!?
Hi,
Indeed, it happens that the smartphone does not want to hang on the 2.4 GHz when the signal is too good ... So either you have to deactivate the 5GHz while the manipulation is taking place, or cut the Wi-Fi of the smartphone and place it more than 15 meters from the box. Generally 2.4 GHz will then be preferred because its range is much greater than that of 5 GHz.
Good luck 🙂
Thank-you for your prompt response !
My Freebox does not have 5 GHz, only 2,4 GHz (IT DATED 2012).
Even by putting me away it does not change anything ...
I even checked that there was no mac filtering, as well as the encryption put on WPA2 PSK AES as recommended in the help of Smart life.
I also tried to initialize by connecting directly to the bulb in the Wifi settings, nada ...
What to do?
A humble alexian.
I have a single echo in the RS (for the moment test phase) and 0 in the RP ...
Is this why the devices in the PR do not want to be initialized by the app? smart life?
Hi
How can I ensure that my wife can also control connected objects from her phone?
a setting somewhere? thank you
Hello,
Yes, it's very simple, you just need to add it in Profile> Family management> Family name> Add member.
Have a good day,
Hello with this kind of bulb the disadvantage is that you have to leave the existing switch on. it is not an easy habit to take hence my question is a way to turn on your lamps either with the application, with Alexa vocally without having to leave the switch (s) on?
Thank you
Hi,
You should turn to connected switches.
Or micromodules to place in your switches.
Good night
Hello
in october 2019 i bought 3 etersky inter roller shutters which worked very well until today and one no longer works in wifi but works in basic go up go down
I tried to reconfigure with smart life but without hope on the other hand I have always a green light on permanently
I do not know what to do
please
Good evening, I just bought Smart CEILING LIGHT, I do not see the on / off switch so it does not flash and naturally my smart phone does not recognize it,, I have to do how thank you
Hello,
This is a type of device, a connected ceiling light, not a brand. Do you have a more precise reference?
Good evening and good luck
Hello, I have followed everything to the letter, the bulb is on and connected to the application SmartLife, only impossible for me to control it on the application: I can neither turn it on, nor turn it off, nor change color.
What should I do ?? I would like to point out that I have reinstalled it several times and that my Wi-Fi is indeed at 2,4 GHz.
cordially
Hello,
It’s weird. Try to restart your smartphone, see if an update of Smart Life is available, then try again.
Good luck
Bonjour,
I am having the exact same problem with a recently purchased bulb. I already had 2 others so no pairing worries for me, switching to AP mode.
I noticed that my last bulb of the day, of which the one that was exchanged to me, has the same SSID: smartlife-0000…. maybe a track
hello, I have just installed two bulbs with E14 socket with the tuya application and my Alexa, no worries, on the other hand I wanted to connect two others with E27 socket and the small problem .. the two applications recognize them, they are visible on my tablet but impossible to control them .. if I ask a alexa an action it confirms but nothing happens ... I was also able to observe that the ssid of these two bulbs were smartlife 0000 while the others had different numbers… would that be the problem? Thank you.
It works with the phone ☎ but with goole home mini
When I want to install my Reafoo Wi-Fi bulb
I chose Wi-Fi lighting device
at the request of network selection: entry of the network name and the password
but impossible to validate (grayed out button)
Your smartphone is probably connected to the 5 GHz band, you have to switch to 2.4 GHz.
Hello,
I bought an action plug-in bulb 1 month ago. With the LSC app from action, all the functions of the bulb worked very well but then I wanted to link it with alexa, which forced me to download smart life. I have configured everything and all the commands alexa works but since today, when I go to the application and I click on my bulb to change the color for example, it takes me to a "tuya design" menu written in Chinese and I no longer have the interface that allowed me to change the color as was the case until now: / I don't understand pk, could you help me?
Thank you in advance, because I have already tried to restart my phone, uninstall the action app and smart life to reinstall everything but it doesn't work either, to empty the app cache, to reset the bulb, nothing helps ...
cordially
Unable to recognize the bulb when I do the manipulation the bulb flashes then I launch the detection and arrive at 6% it remains on and the application does not detect it any idea? I have to split my wifi to have a 2.4 and a 5 thank you
Hello,
my bulbs are well connected and recognized by smart life and alexa, however when I turn on my decoder to watch TV, both go offline. is this a wifi quality problem? do i need a repeater?
merci pour votre aide
hello, like me maybe a problem of too weak wifi?
Hello Jennifer,
It's probably a Wi-Fi concern indeed. You can try with a repeater if you don't have too many connected objects, otherwise you have to turn to a more solid solution such as a Mesh Wi-Fi router.
Hello,
I can't connect my lamp smart life. I am using the calex app as recommended. Everything is in 2.4ghz. My lamp flashes quickly and I start searching for a lamp. At 6% my lamp stops flashing and at 100% it tells me no response from the device… Repeat the test 5 times and at 6% it is always the same thing. I guess the discussion needs to happen but the pairing doesn't go through.
In manual pairing it does not work either. The lamp flashes more slowly but after 100% it still flashes.
For info I have neither alexa nor google home and just want to connect my phone to the lamp. IF it works we'll see for a alexa and for more lamp but it does not take the way.
I tried restarting and all the time… Phone is sony.
Thank you in advance for your lights
Hello Jean-Michel,
If you are having difficulty with the Calex app, try using Smart Life or Tuya. We are currently testing several products of the brand and have not encountered any particular difficulties. As a precaution, to eliminate all problems, we invite you to restart your box as well as your smartphone before starting over.
Good luck and good Sunday 🙂
Hi
My question is sure to sound stupid but is it going to work if alexa is far from the connected bulb
Style alexa and living room and the light bulb in the bedroom?
What should be added?
Hello,
There is no such thing as a stupid question! 😉 But yes, it will work whatever the distance, even on the other side of the world because your Wi-Fi bulb is Smart Life (Tuya) communicates with Alexa via the cloud. The terminals just need to be connected to the Internet. 🙂
Hello
I have a little problem with the control of Wiz So Light bulbs (one white and one multicolored), one in the living room and the other in my office.
When I ask Alexa via the Echo Dot to turn on or off a lamp, everything is fine. But as soon as I ask to turn the light up or down, Alexa replied "I have found more than one device with the name living room / office" when I only have one lamp in each room.
How to fix the problem?
Thank you
Hello Dod,
It is very likely that there is a dot echo so called, or a piece already called the same ...
Hello,
I was offered connected lamps for my Christmas. (BRTLX Wifi Smart Bulbs E27 9W Led Bulb)
I can't connect them to my phone. Let me explain, I connect to my wifi, I flash the lamp until no problem, the search is done and after 10 seconds of searching the lamp no longer flashes and my phone is still searching for the bulb. What should I do because I just did it 20 times and have nothing.
Hello,
Your phone must be connected to the 2.4 GHz network and not to 5 GHz. 🙂
hello, i bought several airaser bulbs that work with smart life and alexa, I have a dual band livebox 4, the application is on ios 14.3 iphone 12, when I started the installation, and I am not new to technology, everything is ok, I make each bulb one by one, the application recognizes each bulb without worry, but arrived at the last most average, the application searches but does not find anything, so I tried with another mobile (iphone se 2016 ios 14.3) by creating a new account on the application and the application magically finds the light bulb, so is the number of connected objects limited on the application / account? because I end up with 2 different accounts to operate all the bulbs, on the side ofAlexa it is that of happiness a love.
Hello,
No, the number of devices is unlimited, it's quite surprising but it happens that it "crashes". In this case, you must either restart the app or outright the iPhone, or even the box. However, it looks like a Wi-Fi band problem, and you absolutely have to be on 2.4 GHz otherwise the devices cannot communicate with each other (the bulb only sees 2.4 GHz, the smartphone prefers 5 GHz if it is within range). Try again by resetting the bulb (3 to 5 on / off in general), because it is better to have only one account, especially for Alexa which can only associate one. 😉
Good luck 🙂
Hello,
I created a whole environment with LSC / TUYA bulbs from Action. Everything works perfectly, app, Alexa, scenarios, everything is perfect. However, I have 25 LSC objects, which therefore take up 25 “places” on my WIFI router. To overcome this, I bought a ZIGBEE / TUYA bridge but I couldn't attach any LSC object to it. Do you know if this is normal? Do you have another "tip" to connect all my LSC objects to a single "port" of my wifi router, please?
Hello, I have just equipped my apartment with 6 connected light bulbs with Smartlife, no problem during installation but since yesterday these bulbs are well recognized and controllable via smartlife but appear offline for some in Alexa….. This installation was still working very well 2 days ago and yet Freebox up to date, 2.4 wifi network OK; an idea?
I tried several times to deactivate the skill then to relaunch it to restart an equipment discovery but nothing changes ...
Hello,
It is a well-known evil with Smart Life, but they are nevertheless generally accessible by voice and can also be activated via the app or an Echo Show ...
This is probably from the server hosting the skill at Tuya.
Hello,
Yes, this is completely normal, your objects are Wi-Fi and not ZigBee, two protocols not compatible although using the same frequency… There is no solution to have only one DHCP lease with Wi-Fi objects, each bulb will have an address, which unfortunately quickly clogs the router. The solution: a Mesh Wi-Fi router or, even better, gradually switch to ZigBee… 😉
Hello and thank you for your feedback. Can I ask you what is a wifi mesh please?
I invite you to read this article: [DOSSIER] Wi-Fi Mesh: all in cahoots? 😉
Okay, I understand better. Would an honor style router 3 wifi router do the trick in your opinion? They announce 125 devices connected simultaneously. Having no area constraint (110m2 house) would a router be enough?
We have not tested it, but the feedback on this product is quite good, so probably yes ... Nevertheless, different mesh access points clearly provide comfort with a more homogeneous distribution and power everywhere, but the antennas of the Honor Router 3 like its 3 powers will inevitably bring you much more comfort than an ISP box. Having roughly the same area, I had to put 3 points to really cover, but it is an old building with particularly thick walls.
Just a return to thank you because you have found the solution! I did not take models from different access points, but having never had a problem with my home coverage, the router is more than enough for me. Installed yesterday, it finally allows me to have all my connected objects together. Thank you, and good luck!
Great ! Glad to hear it! 🙂
